What would be more wonderful than waking up to a chill weather bundled up in a warm blanket with the sound of rain pouring? One of the people who might disagree is my mom. Why? Cause its pouring and we need to close all the windows so that rainwater does not come inside….. I personally love rains it just gives a calming emotion and hate the sunny days filled with sweat. Sometimes I think I am a vampire to avoid the sunlight. But getting back to the topics its okay to have sunlight in our house but not the rainwater??? I clearly can't get hold of that logic.
A typical rainy day is good when spent alone. I experienced this when I pursued my internship, as a student of engineering we spend our wonderful vacation days doing internship in rainy days. So for this particular internship in power plant, I thought of staying in the guest rooms available (of course I had to beg a lot to stay alone). These internship days were the best being alone making totally new friends, I am glad that I did meet them.
The day starts with waking up at 6 to catch the bus at 7. The most wonderful thing would be if it would rain while waiting for the bus(it’s a power plant with a colony for the employees so there are buses for transport). Then there would be those colony children waiting for their school bus fighting with their parents to get wet in rain and them preventing them from doing so. It's so much fun doing all the observing. There are some plant visits where we forget our umbrella and get to the office fully drenched and still sitting in the AC rooms shivering like crazy. The happy moment would be when the office hours are over and we have to go back to our rooms. There is this scanning system at the entrance of the power plant so we have to get out of the bus run scan and again run back to the bus and most of the time it just rains. So getting wet all over again. Then comes the walk from the bus stop to the guest house. It's just like in the movies both the sides covered by trees and its raining and your friends are walking in the rain talking, laughing, playing, getting wet. Getting to the room it's our own me time till the dinner. I mostly go out with my friend for walks in the colony (and get totally lost before we realize that we actually are lost and then taking our own time our way back) or going to the park to play swings(the most important thing to do if we get to a park). Then after dinner, we go for our night walks, as it doesn’t rain much during that time we would always be roaming out enjoying the cool breeze. The nights are the best when I have my me-time reading books, novels, sketching.
I enjoyed this internship just because of rain. Being alone, getting to know what it would be if I actually live alone, and yes it is addictive being the introvert I am. Those rainy morning running to the cafeteria to get breakfast and warm coffee. Those Sundays that are spent inside the warm blanket reading books or watching dramas or listening to songs. Those short walks in the colony path when it's drizzling.
What if we are not staying alone? Then also it's fun. Having your friend over and chatting about memories with some hot chocolate, coffee. When talking with family a cup of tea and a plate of pakoras is a must, those tales that we hear from our grandparents are the things that I look forward to. I especially remember those vacation days at my native place. Pure bliss. Mixed with the knowledge and memories of elders and with the occasional visits of rain. In all native places, there is always a time when we have power cuts. These are all the more reasons for going to the terrace to spend some time either alone or with family, it doesn't matter both just belong with one word and that is peaceful.
As a child I always enjoyed going out in rains there was no need for an umbrella and raincoats but that’s a must when going out. I especially remember those memories I had when my friends used to go to the terrace in the evening to play. And mind you those days used to be too windy. So I and my friend used to go extra early so that we can fly, yes fly or I would rather say a small version of sky diving equipped with our tool: umbrella. So we were always the first one of the terrace and there is a platform like a place which is less than 1 meter long we climb up there are jump with our umbrellas open. Then when all the friends gather its time to play football which stops almost every 5 minutes as the ball always falls down. Those were the days that had most of the happy memories for me of rain which would always be instilled in my heart as a happy treasure.
